   This was a targeted IPC-focused inspection of a respite care home, which was inspected but not rated. Inspectors were assured on all infection prevention and control measures, while noting sector-wide staffing pressures that the provider was actively mitigating.

   Concerns (1)

   • moderateStaffing levels: “The provider had experienced staff retention and recruitment difficulties due to sector workforce challenges including competition with other employers, vaccine hesitancy, and stress.”
   Strengths

   • · Worked within government guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic, managed through regular senior leader meetings dedicated to COVID-19 issues.
   • · Additional checks supplemented regular audits and walk rounds.
   • · Maintained a safe, compliant environment by limiting respite places when needed; continued to recruit new staff.
   • · Used individual risk assessments to support people at particular risk of infection, including those shielding.
   • · Maintained high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and maintenance despite frequent changes to room occupancy.
