Paradise Independent Living, a supported living service for people with acquired brain injuries, improved from Requires Improvement to Good following a focused inspection of Safe, Effective and Well-led. Previous breaches of Regulations 12, 13 and 17 had been resolved, with only a minor observation around dating opened liquid medicines.
Concerns (1)
minorMedication management: “we found the service did not record the date when certain medicines were opened, such as medicines in liquid form, which may have a shortened shelf-life once opened.”
Strengths
· Improvements made around safe management of medicines, with PRN protocols and best interest assessments for covert medicines in place
· Sufficient staffing levels with safe recruitment practices including personality testing
· Compliant with the Mental Capacity Act with documented capacity assessments and best interest decisions
· Specialist training around acquired brain injuries and Headway accreditation maintained
