Date of Assessment: 17 March to 1 April 2026. Birchwood Co Case Management Ltd is a specialist agency which provides bespoke case management support to both adults and children with complex needs, often as a result of a brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation or complex injury. Case managers work with people to set up and coordinate their rehabilitation, care, and support needs. At the time of the assessment 19 people were using the service, 4 of which were receiving the regulated activity of personal care. Not everyone who uses a domiciliary care service receives personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. During our visit, we found that the service was supporting 2 people who may fall within the learning disability and/or autism service user group. Although the provider was not currently registered for this client group they agreed to apply and add this service user band to their registration. We therefore assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. This provider overall was able to demonstrate how they were meeting the underpinning principles of ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ and committed to reviewing their existing practices to fully meet the principles as part of their application. This is the first assessment for this provider under its new registration. At this assessment we reviewed all 5 key questions and rated the provider overall as good. There was a recruitment system to ensure appropriate staff were employed and there were enough staff to support people. Some aspects of the recruitment process required review to ensure they were fully robust. The registered managers agreed to action this immediately. People and their relatives were fully involved in the recruitment process and had access to experienced case managers who were qualified health and social care professionals. Appropriate systems were in place to safeguard people from abuse. Risks associated with people’s care had been identified and assessments were in place to minimise risks occurring. People were supported by staff who followed systems and processes to administer, record and store medicines safely. People were supported to achieve their goals and there was a strong focus on rehabilitation and independence. The provider employed and also worked in partnership with a variety of health professionals to ensure people received the right care and support. Governance systems were in place to oversee and monitor the quality of care provided.
