Homecare Plus Limited is a supported living service for people with learning disabilities within the North Tyneside area. At the time of the assessment, 22 people used the service and received personal care. We received some concerns regarding the care provided and this prompted us to visit sooner than planned. We found no evidence of these concerns during our visit. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The service had recently gone through some management changes, including a change for some of those responsible for individual supported homes. There was enough suitably recruited, kind and caring staff who had received appropriate training. We did receive some comments from staff indicating more enhanced training in particular areas would be beneficial. The provider was committed to address this and confirmed contact with training agencies had been made. Staff felt supported and told us things had improved since the new provider had taken over. Medicines were well managed. We gave feedback to enhance procedures further. Staff followed infection prevention and control procedures. People’s dietary needs were well supported. People led fulfilled lives the way they wanted and were encouraged to participate in activities they enjoyed. Consent was obtained from people whenever possible and capacity assessments and best interests’ decisions made when a person lacked capacity to give their consent. The provider had a range of quality assurance procedures in place and continued to review these to ensure a quality service was in place.
