The service demonstrated robust recruitment, comprehensive staff training, person-centred care planning and effective governance through regular audits with completed action plans.
Strengths
· Robust recruitment procedures with comprehensive DBS checks, gap-explained applications and two references per staff member.
· Staff received thorough induction including shadow shifts, mandatory training and specialist training (catheter care, nebulisers, palliative care, etc.) assessed by nurses.
· Regular supervision, annual appraisals and competency checks ensured staff had the right skills and knowledge.
· Person-centred care plans developed with people and relatives, regularly reviewed and updated promptly when needs changed.
· Medication administration was safe: trained and competency-checked staff, fully completed MARs, regular audits and PRN protocols in place.
